Job Summary

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah seeks qualified, boarded Advance Practice Providers to join our growing practice. As the only academic medical center in the Intermountain West, we perform nearly 1000 cases per year, including advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and thoracic transplantation. Our division is team-focused and serves as a central training hub for Thoracic Surgery residents and PAs in the region.

Responsibilities

• Full perioperative scope of practice
• Shared floor and ICU responsibilities
• Consults, discharges, and outpatient follow-up
• Chest tube, arterial line, and central line placement/removal
• Endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
• Assist in all aspects of surgery
• Coordinate outpatient care
• Take complex medical histories and perform physical exams
• Order and supervise diagnostic tests and blood products
• Develop treatment plans with attending physicians
• Participate in CME and research data collection
• Order consultations and collaborate with other medical teams
• Participate in projects and committees

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Office environment, with frequent exposure to infectious diseases, oils, hazards, and physical activities like walking, standing, and sitting. Continuous hearing, listening, and talking are required; repetitive hand motions and occasional bending or reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Utah

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS
• Utah prescriptive privileges
• Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner

This position is patient-sensitive; all employees must adhere to CDC vaccination standards unless medically or religiously exempted. The role requires credentialing and privileging upon hire.
