Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics South Main Clinic (SMC) has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse (RN) who shares our vision and passion for caring for women, children, and adults. The RN plays a critical role on the care team, facilitating the efficient delivery of patient care while supporting the professional and academic mission of the pediatric residency continuity clinic.

The South Main Clinic serves a largely underserved population, with over 60% of children from Spanish-speaking families and 25% uninsured. With over 10,500 pediatric visits annually, providers deliver culturally-aware primary care, utilizing programs like WIC, county immunizations, Medicaid, pharmacy vouchers for uninsured children, and literacy programs. The clinic also cares for medically complex children within a collaborative medical home model.

This role involves delivering professional nursing care, assessing patient status, implementing interventions, and evaluating care plans to improve outcomes and ensure safety.

Must be Fluent in Spanish.

The clinic is located at 3690 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Assess problems through patient interactions; evaluate health issues.
• Plan and implement interventions for patient care problems.
• Develop and document care plans.
• Evaluate patient responses and modify care plans accordingly.
• Educate patients and families about care programs.
• Coordinate care with the healthcare team.
• Maintain a safe patient environment.
• Provide guidance to healthcare team members.
• Stay current with nursing care advances.
• Provide and oversee direct patient care per protocols and physician orders.
• Use knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety in crises.
• Participate in quality management to improve outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor Medical Assistants.
• Assist in educating physicians and students.
• Coordinate care for medically complex children.

Problem Solving

The RN makes practice decisions within policies, standards, and laws, handling patient and family issues, crisis management, and prioritization, while maintaining safety and infection control standards.

Additional Requirements

Must have current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential within 30 days of hire, and RN license in Utah or eligible through interstate compact within 90 days. Additional certifications like ACLS, PALS, or NRP are preferred within one year. Immunization according to CDC standards is required.

Preferences

• Fluency in Spanish (oral and written)
• Two years of community-based pediatric or primary care experience
• Strong computer, organizational, and leadership skills
• Lactation certification
