Job summary

Actalent is seeking an R&D Mechanical Technician for a contract role in Woburn, MA. You will assemble, test, and maintain large prototype assemblies in a collaborative lab alongside engineers and technicians.

You will read design plans, troubleshoot systems, and contribute to improvements in assembly and testing processes while ensuring quality and traceability. This onsite position offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of demonstrated experience on fielded hardware programs with traceability and quality requirements.
• Strong mechanical assembly and integration skills with large assemblies and prototype builds.
• Experience with mechanical and electromechanical troubleshooting on complex systems.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools for assembly and modification work.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from assembly drawings and design plans.
• Excellent independent problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose issues and propose solutions.
• Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds for hands-on assembly and lab activities.
• Eligible for U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical assembly, integration, modification, and testing of large assemblies and subassemblies.
• Integrate cable and wire harnesses, routing, and box builds for prototype and fielded systems.
• Read, interpret, and refine work instructions and drawings to improve clarity.
• Support test activities and conduct test routines under engineering guidance.
• Assist with ordering, tracking, receiving, and inventory of parts and tools.
• Operate heavy equipment (forklifts, cranes, boom lifts) up to 20 feet when needed.
• Document work activities and test results to maintain full traceability.
• Collaborate with engineering to understand design intent and provide corrective recommendations.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical systems, including radar and antenna assemblies.
• Use hand and power tools safely to build/modify prototype systems.
