The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks inquisitive engineers for prototyping and signal analysis internships, advancing ideas from algorithms to fielded prototypes in navigation, hypersonics, and missile technologies.

You will work with embedded technologies including FPGAs and microcontrollers, implementing signal processing algorithms and assessing performance using Python, Matlab, C/C++, and VHDL.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Proficient in Python, Matlab, C, C++, or VHDL.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect with technical team members and leaders.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and analyze embedded systems performance.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date; aim for Top Secret eventually.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage embedded technologies including FPGAs and microcontrollers to integrate sensors such as radio navigation receivers, software defined radios, or inertial measurement units (IMUs).
  • Implement sophisticated signal processing algorithms for various types of communication, telemetry, and radio navigation sensors.
  • Use analytical and scientific programming skills to assess performance of systems, both fielded and prototype.
  • Make meaningful contributions by deploying algorithms and concepts to prototype systems and analyzing their performance.
