Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks Engineering Interns to tackle complex problems in software, RF, data analytics, and AI across three focus areas. You’ll work with experts on systems that strengthen national security, developing tools, simulations, and visualizations for mission planning and decision support.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, GNU Radio, and SDRs, while learning Agile practices and collaborative software development.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, RF Engineering, Math, Statistics, Physics, or related technical area
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience in Python, Java, C/C++, C#, JavaScript, MATLAB, or similar language
  • Fundamentals of software development including debugging, testing, or version control
  • Data analysis, statistics, numerical methods, or scientific computing
  • Communications, networking, signal processing, or embedded systems
  • Modeling, simulation, optimization, or algorithm development
  • AI, ML, or data science concepts
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Eligibility for Interim Secret and ultimately Top Secret clearance; US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to engineering projects supporting next-generation C3 technologies
  • Develop software, scripts, or analytical tools for real engineering problems
  • Assist with modeling, simulation, and data analysis of complex systems
  • Support laboratory testing, experimentation, and technology demonstrations
  • Analyze engineering data and communicate technical findings
  • Learn Agile development and version control; pair with a mentor
  • Present work to technical staff and project leadership at internship conclusion
