Job summary

Command Post Technologies, Inc. in Virginia seeks an Engineering Technician IV to build electrical and mechanical prototypes. The role centers on precise SMT hand soldering, assembly from schematics, and prototype troubleshooting under a microscope.

You will collaborate with E25 engineers to turn designs into working hardware quickly, read BOMs and schematics, and perform rework using hot-air and reflow techniques with attention to quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years hands-on electronics assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Skill in hand soldering and rework of fine-pitch SMT under a microscope.
  • Steady hands and fine motor control for micro-scale work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams and BOMs.
  • Proficiency with DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies, signal generators.
  • Working knowledge of ESD control and electronics workmanship quality standards.
  • Initiative to work independently in a fast-paced prototyping environment with shifting priorities.
  • Clear communication with engineers and government personnel.
  • Active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Hand-solder SMT and through-hole components under a microscope.
  • Assemble, wire, and integrate prototype circuit boards, cables, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Perform rework and repair: component removal/replacement, pad/trace repair, hot-air/reflow.
  • Troubleshoot boards to component level using multimeters, scopes, and generators.
  • Inspect work against workmanship standards; identify and correct defects.
  • Read schematics, BOMs, and assembly drawings; follow engineering redlines.
  • Work with engineers to build, test, and refine prototypes; suggest design improvements.
  • Maintain build/test/rework records and provide status updates to government lead.
  • Maintain an ESD-safe workstation and lab safety procedures.
  • Manage parts/tools/consumables for prototype builds; flag shortages early.
