Job summary

Duke Energy in the Carolinas West Transmission Region seeks an Engineer II/III to perform protective relay studies, calculations, and settings development for substation relay systems. The role focuses on applying new protective relaying for planned projects and integrating designs with legacy systems as needed.

You will prepare technical reports, schematics, and configuration files, support field technicians during commissioning, and collaborate with Transmission Planning, Account Management,

Qualifications

  • Requires B.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or PE license.
  • Minimum 2 years engineering experience for Engineer II; 4 years for Engineer III.
  • Desirable: FE exam, knowledge of NERC standards, and protection tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide protective relay engineering expertise to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Plan and execute scope, schedule, estimates; adapt to priorities.
  • Conduct engineering studies and prepare technical documentation (reports, calculations, sketches).
  • Create/update schematics and configuration files for planned projects.
  • Support field technicians during implementation and commissioning.
