Job summary

AEP in Texas is seeking a Protection & Control Technician with a strong foundation in electrical testing to support substation devices and SCADA systems. The role involves testing, calibration, and diagnostics of protection equipment, plus assisting with PLCs and telecom links across sites.

You will help ensure safe, compliant operation and reliable power delivery, including emergency response and maintenance of test gear. Strong safety practices are a must.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in electrical engineering technology or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
• Equivalent education and/or experience will be determined by the hiring manager.
• No previous work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in acceptance and installation tests on protection, control, and measurement devices and equipment.
• Assist in installation and operation of PLCs, station SCADA, and communications equipment.
• Perform switching under supervision following proper authority.
• Maintain test and calibration equipment and prepare accurate records and drawings.
• Test, calibrate, and diagnose protection and control devices on a scheduled basis.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate restoration of service as required.
