Job summary

Southern Company in Macon, GA is seeking a P&C Field Services Engineer/Associate/Technician to join its Protection & Control team in the Central Transmission Maintenance Area. The role focuses on commissioning, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relays, controls, and communication equipment for substations and transmission lines.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical credential, strong knowledge of 3-phase power and protection

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Experience in P&C field services preferred.
• Knowledge of 3-phase power systems and protective relays.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relaying, controls, and communication equipment associated with substation and transmission power lines.
• Complete construction projects and substation routines without service interruptions, managing clearances to meet quality, schedule, and budget targets.
• Coordinating substation outages and commissioning with stakeholders; handle trouble calls as needed.
• Develop and share safe work practices to prevent safety and operational incidents; conduct job briefings.
• Develop and share technical expertise in 3-phase power, relaying, SCADA, and substation testing techniques.
• Isolate hazards and damaged equipment during emergencies to restore service.
