We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Permanent Protection and Controls Technician to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our electrical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting substations, grounding, one-line and three-line diagrams and bus switching configurations. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role and offers an exceptional opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and maintain electrical equipment in substations to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Analyze and interpret one-line and three-line diagrams to understand the layout of the electrical system.
- Conduct regular inspections of grounding systems to prevent electrical faults and enhance system reliability.
- Oversee bus switching configurations to ensure proper power distribution and minimize electrical loss.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in protection and control systems to minimize downtime and maintain system efficiency.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and implement improvements to the protection and control systems.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while performing tasks.
- Document all work performed, including any issues detected and actions taken.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians and other team members.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a Protection and Controls Technician or in a similar role.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, including substations, grounding, one-line and three-line diagrams, and bus switching configurations.
- Proven ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair protection and control systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information to non-technical colleagues.
- A high level of physical fitness and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- A degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to different work sites as needed.
- Certification from a recognized electrical or technical institution would be an advantage.
