Job summary

CFD Research is seeking a Safety Manager to support our Engineering Test Center in Hollywood, Alabama. This role serves as the primary on-site safety professional for a technical environment that may include propulsion testing, fuels and oxidizers, compressed gases, pressure systems, operations, machining, and fabrication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, fire protection, or closely related field.
  • Five+ years of industrial safety experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or high-hazard environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards and ability to translate requirements into controls.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analyses.
  • Experience with job hazard analyses and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials, gases, high-pressure systems, electrical hazards, machine safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and plans to identify safety concerns.
  • Strong written communication and leadership briefing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the occupational safety program for the Engineering Test Facility and drive continuous safety improvements.
  • Serve as primary safety advisor to site leadership, engineering, test personnel, manufacturing, and facilities staff.
  • Participate in test planning, readiness reviews, and risk assessments for propulsion and high-energy tests.
  • Evaluate hazards related to fuels, oxidizers, gases, pressure systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Develop and maintain safety policies, SOPs, emergency plans, permits, and checklists.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and hazard reviews.
  • Inspect test areas, laboratories, and contractor sites for safety compliance.
  • Investigate injuries, incidents, spills, and near misses; recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA General Industry and other standards; support emergency response.
  • Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and leadership briefings.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and drive program improvements.
