Job summary

Prometheus Energetics in Bloomington, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead a small team in setting up a rapid prototyping and test facility for single solid rocket motors (SRMs). You will bridge early-stage motor design and fast shop-floor execution, overseeing facility setup, tooling, and test stands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 6+ years of progressive engineering experience in solid rocket propulsion, pyrotechnics, or hazardous energetic materials processing, including experience leading small technical teams or project workflows.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software and Product Data Management (PDM/PLM) systems.
• DoD energetic safety standards, Process Safety Management (PSM), and hazardous location classifications knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Greenfield Facility Setup, Equipment & Test Integration for single rocket motor builds.
• Establish rapid-turn manufacturing processes, tooling sheets, and detailed Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).
• Define equipment specifications, evaluate proposals, and manage acquisition and commissioning.
• Directly lead a small team through facility buildout, process qualification, and rapid fabrication/test cycles.
• Drive project schedules, milestones, and risk management while managing budgets for equipment and tooling.
• Lead RCCA investigations and apply LEAN/Six Sigma practices early in prototyping and testing.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards across operations.
