Job summary

Vast is seeking a Propulsion Design Reliability Engineer to guide the propulsion system design for Haven‑1. You will drive FMEA, define test methodologies, and collaborate with hardware teams to ensure design intent is met while reducing risk. This full‑time, exempt role is based in Long Beach and reports to the Sr.

Manager of Design Reliability. The role emphasizes design robustness, test campaigns, and process ownership across engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related Engineering discipline.
• 6+ years of related professional work experience in responsible engineering, design ownership, systems integration, test engineering, or reliability‑focused development.
• 10+ years of related professional work experience in responsible engineering, design ownership, systems integration, test engineering, or reliability‑focused development.
• Strong scripting and data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, Excel).
• Experience with spacecraft, aircraft, launch vehicles, or safety-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Guide propulsion design and reviews to ensure reliability for Haven‑1.
• Lead technical reviews and risk gates with clear guidance on mechanical design and analysis.
• Develop design criteria, requirements, and verification approaches for Haven‑1 design architecture.
• Drive FMEA and fault tree analyses across engineering systems to mitigate risk.
• Build and steward design review templates, reliability checklists, and internal design guides.
