Job summary

The County of Culpeper is seeking a Commissioner of the Revenue to oversee ad valorem taxation, personal property assessment and related tax administration for Culpeper County and the Town. The role administers tax relief, exemptions and incentives, enforces compliance, and ensures accurate tax billing and customer service for residents and businesses.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent with accounting/business coursework; plus 2 years relevant experience.
• Minimum one year experience in local/state government property assessment and taxation preferred.
• Must obtain satisfactory results of criminal history background check

Responsibilities

• Serve as Customer Service Representative; respond to inquiries in person, by phone and in writing.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the assessment of all classes of personal property.
• Maintain current and historical assessment database and records using Excel and software.
• Perform desk audits to enforce compliance; research, analyze and prepare adjustments and exonerations.
• Train new employees in assessment of business tangible personal property.
• Coordinate with County Economic Development for investment/tax incentives.
