Starr, a global leader in commercial insurance, seeks a Property Loss Control Inspector to conduct on-site surveys, assess risks, and guide underwriting in complex facilities. You will manage schedules, write detailed survey reports, and present findings to clients and brokers.

The role emphasizes independent work, strong communication, and familiarity with sprinkler and fire alarm systems, with up to 25% travel and a company car provided. This is a growth-focused position at Starr.

Qualifications

  • Preferred experience of performing field inspections for an insurance, fire bureau, consulting, or brokerage company.
  • College graduate with minimum Bachelors of Science in recognized engineering discipline with preference given to fire protection.
  • Understanding basics of sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, process hazards, property loss control issues preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of loss prevention codes (NFPA, FM, API, ASME, etc.) standards and industry practices preferred.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication, writing, organization, customer relation, public speaking and time management skills.
  • Good familiarity with basic computer operations with knowledge of software programs such as Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting property loss control inspections of various types of process industries and commercial properties.
  • Performing risk assessment account reviews for underwriters, account/broker meetings, and presentations.
  • Evaluating sprinkler systems, building additions, and fire alarm plan reviews and providing guidance to clients
  • Responsible for maintaining own schedule and writing survey reports.
  • Provide guidance to underwriting staff regarding risk quality/insurability.
  • Maintaining up-to-date inspection record data base.
  • Job functions break out is approximately: Desktop review/risk selection and project work (40%), On-site surveys and risk evaluation report writing of existing and prospective clients (40%), Underwriting/Broker/Team meeting (10%), General Consulting and Presentations (10%).
  • This position will include on-the-job and inhouse training.
  • Travel can be up to 25%.

Job Description
