Job summary

EqualAccess seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting across a multi-entity, multi-property portfolio in Queens, NY. The role closes books, maintains strong controls, and partners with property and asset management teams. It requires drive to grow into broader finance leadership and compliance with HUD/LIHTC and lender reporting.

The role is on-site in Queens, with hands-on responsibility for month-end close, GAAP reporting, and collaboration with senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
• GAAP knowledge and external audit support experience.
• Hands-on with AP/AR, reconciliations, and multi-entity month-end close.
• ERP/property accounting platforms such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, NetSuite.
• Familiarity with HUD/LIHTC compliance is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA progress preferred.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and collaborative across teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in GAAP.
• Manage general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and multi-entity close.
• Oversee AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and cash flow reporting at the property level.
• Assist budgeting/forecasting and variance analysis with leadership.
• Strengthen controls, support audits, and coordinate with property/asset teams.
