Job summary

The City of Westfield seeks a qualified assessor to work with the Chief Assessor and Board of Assessors to identify and list property for taxation. Applicants should have an associate degree in a related field, 3 years of real estate appraisal experience, and a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in business, economics, public administration or related field plus three years’ experience in real estate appraisal work.
• Massachusetts Accredited Assessors certification required or willingness to obtain.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of laws and ordinances pertaining to property assessment.

Responsibilities

• Complete field and office appraisals for all personal property located within the City.
• Track new businesses and submit monthly reports to the Chief Assessor.
• Assist with cyclical property inspections as required by Department of Revenue.
• Manage exempt property data and related inspection/valuation reviews.
• Review Chapter Land data and forestry plans for accuracy.
• Update land valuations including GIS discrepancy reviews, splits and apportionments.
• Assist with abutters lists and related tasks.
