Job summary

Sedgwick County is seeking a Customer Service Representative – Appraiser to provide professional, accurate support to property owners, internal departments, and external customers. The role involves explaining appraisal processes, assisting with valuation appeals, maintaining records, and handling real estate and personal property accounts in accordance with Kansas statutes and office policies.

Work is Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of customer service or administrative support experience in a professional office setting.
  • Must successfully pass the following courses within three (3) years of hire date: Kansas Property Tax Law, Kansas Personal Property Valuation and Assessment.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of mass appraisal experience and/or five (5) years of administrative assistance or customer service experience in a professional office setting.
  • IAAO Course 101 Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal.
  • Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
  • Orion Introduction and Overview of Basic Functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers professionally in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Respond to questions and requests accurately, promptly, and courteously.
  • Explain Appraiser’s Office processes, records, procedures, and resources to property owners, taxpayers, and authorized representatives.
  • Assist with valuation appeals, forms, and related account information.
  • Support individual personal property, business personal property, real estate, and appeal accounts.
  • Research valuation history and assist customers with the office website and online tools.
  • Coordinate with County departments to resolve questions, reconcile changes, correct discrepancies or inequities, and support production needs.
  • Receive, document, and assist with KORA requests; promptly notify the KORA Coordinator to support timely acknowledgment and response.
  • Assist with Annual Valuation and Property Asset Maintenance
  • Research, review, and maintain real estate, individual personal property, and business personal property accounts for annual valuation.
  • Research and prepare change orders for personal property, business personal property, and real estate accounts.
  • Assist with discovering, listing, and valuing personal and business property assets.
  • Identify, research, and correct account discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate property records supporting fair, consistent, and reliable appraisal outcomes.
  • Apply Kansas statutes, Property Valuation Division directives, office policies, and appraisal standards.
  • Support accurate data maintenance and efficient office workflows.
