Job summary

Crawford & Company is seeking a Property Adjuster Trainee to begin a field-based career in property claims. Under supervision, you will learn to investigate losses, shadow experienced adjusters, and support settlements with a focus on accuracy and service to policyholders.

Responsibilities include reviewing forms and evidence, preparing reports, and assisting in resolving claims with attention to detail and professional conduct. A college degree and a basic property class are preferred.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completion of Crawford and Company basic property class and/or continuing education required for advancement.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
• Solid time management and organizational ability.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle challenging situations and people with tact and diplomacy.
• Outside adjusters must have a valid driver's license.
• A variable schedule including on-call may be required; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages.
• Shadows Adjuster in claims investigation and assists by obtaining official reports, inspecting physical damage, and comparing claim information with evidence.
• Sets loss reserves with approval of client and management.
• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford.
• Settles claims by determining insurer's liability, client instructions and authority levels; obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, and filing with regulatory agencies.
• Controls claims costs.
• Maintains expected caseload.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
• Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with regulations and service standards.
• Review and approval on reports on losses exceeding $10,000.
• Creates day-to-day agenda with assistance of manager/supervisor.
• Conduct roof inspections as needed.
• Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
• Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.

• A variable schedule including on-call may be required. Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
• Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours when necessary.

• Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
• Review and approval on reports on losses exceeding $10,000.
• Creates day to day agenda with assistance of manager/supervisor.
• Conduct roof inspections as needed.
