Job summary

Crawford & Company in Chicago is seeking a Property Adjuster with 2+ years of experience to examine claims, determine coverages and settle losses. You will investigate claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, assess damage, set reserves and prepare required reports for clients and regulators.

The role requires strong analytical, communication and documentation skills, ability to travel for field inspections, and compliance with licensing and state/local requirements.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • 6 months experience or completion of Crawford and Company basic property class, and/or continuing education requirements.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to handle challenging situations and people.
  • Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions.
  • Outside adjusters must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
  • A variable schedule including on-call may be required; depending on case load you may need to work beyond normal business hours.
  • Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours.
  • 2+ years of Property Adjuster experience.
  • Strong investigation, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel for field inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Examin es claims forms, policies and endorsements to determine coverages.
  • Investigates claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, inspecting damage, and comparing information with evidence.
  • Sets loss reserves.
  • Prepares reports required by client, local, state and federal government and Crawford.
  • Settles claims by determining liability, following client instructions, obtaining demands, making offers, issuing settlement checks and filing with agencies.
  • Controls claims costs.
  • Maintains reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with regulations and service standards.
  • Recommends litigation when appropriate.
  • Prepares evidence for legal proceedings and documents as needed.
  • Maintains expected caseload.
  • Maintains professional knowledge through continuing education.
  • Product supervision focuses on product presented to clients.
  • Conducts roof inspections as needed.
  • Upholds Crawford Code of Business Conduct.
  • Participates in special projects or duties in other areas as requested.

  • Settles claims by determining insurance carrier's liability, client's instructions and authority levels required, obtaining demands, making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage, pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
  • Controls claims costs.
  • Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Recommends litigation when appropriate.
  • Prepares evidence for legal proceedings, producing reports and other documents as evidence.
  • Maintains expected case load.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Product supervision focuses primarily on product being presented to clients.
  • Conducts roof inspections as needed.
  • Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
