Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for properties.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, and general ledger accounts.
  • Review AP/AR transactions and tenancy billings as needed.
  • Prepare CAM and operating expense reconciliations and tenant billings.
  • Monitor budgets and assist with variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Ensure lease terms are reflected in accounting records and reporting.
  • Support annual budgeting and year-end audits.
  • Coordinate with property managers and vendors on accounting matters.
  • Maintain GAAP compliance and assist with tax reporting.

Salary: USD75000 - USD85000 per year

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. This role is responsible for preparing financial statements, performing account reconciliations, managing month-end close processes, and ensuring the accuracy of property-level financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, experience in real estate or property management, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 75-85k DOE

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and general ledger accounts.
  • Review and post Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain CAM (Common Area Maintenance), operating expense reconciliations, and tenant billings.
  • Monitor property budgets and assist with variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Ensure lease terms are accurately reflected in accounting records and financial reporting.
  • Support annual budgeting processes and year-end audits.
  • Coordinate with property managers, asset managers, vendors, and tenants regarding accounting-related matters.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with tax reporting and financial reporting requests from ownership groups and lenders.
  • Identify process improvements and support special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property, real estate, or commercial real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred
  • Experience with property management/accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio, or Entrata.
  • Experience with commercial real estate accounting.
