Job summary

Ledgent is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. This role will handle month-end close, reconciliations, and ensure accuracy of property-level records in a fast-paced environment. DOE 75-85k.

The candidate should have 2+ years in real estate accounting, strong Excel skills, and knowledge of GAAP. Collaboration with managers and lenders is essential for accurate reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property, real estate, or commercial real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and general ledger accounts.
  • Review and post Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain CAM, operating expense reconciliations, and tenant billings.
  • Monitor property budgets and assist with variance analysis and forecasting.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. This role is responsible for preparing financial statements, performing account reconciliations, managing month‑end close processes, and ensuring the accuracy of property‑level financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, experience in real estate or property management, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment. 75-85k DOE

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Perform month‑end and year‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and general ledger accounts.
  • Review and post Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain CAM (Common Area Maintenance), operating expense reconciliations, and tenant billings.
  • Monitor property budgets and assist with variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Ensure lease terms are accurately reflected in accounting records and financial reporting.
  • Support annual budgeting processes and year‑end audits.
  • Coordinate with property managers, asset managers, vendors, and tenants regarding accounting‑related matters.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with tax reporting and financial reporting requests from ownership groups and lenders.
  • Identify process improvements and support special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property, real estate, or commercial real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred
  • Experience with property management/accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio, or Entrata.
  • Experience with commercial real estate accounting.
  • Multi‑property portfolio experience.
