Job summary

  • Must have a valid driver’s license for vehicles up to 26,000 lbs with air brakes.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload materials, pallets, drums, and equipment.
  • Occasional fire watch for hot work and site organization.
  • Operate vehicles safely and comply with state license requirements.

Job Description

Purpose

The Project Truck Driver is responsible for safely making pickups and deliveries to AbbVie and vendor locations within Lake County in support of Construction Services providing delivery of tools, material and equipment to the job site. Reports directly to Group Leader but gets daily workload from multiple group leaders or estimators.


Responsibilities


  • Experienced at driving box trucks up to 27’ in length for making deliveries throughout Lake County.

  • Delivers/relocates heavy tool boxes, gang boxes, man lifts, tools, and construction materials to docks or directly to job sites.

  • Duties can include acting as a fire watch for tradesmen performing hot work. Organizing and general housekeeping of storage cages and shop areas. Complies with all applicable safety requirements for assigned task.

  • Operates motor vehicles in a safe manner: Driver must ensure safe driving techniques at all times and must meet all departmental procedures and Illinois/Wisconsin state motor vehicle operating license requirements.

  • Completes pickups and deliveries at various AbbVie and vendor locations: The Driver must be able to load and unload materials, pallets, drums, cylinders, barrels, etc., onto and off the truck as needed. This includes using various tracking methods of written manifests, computer manifests, or vendor packing slips.

  • Maintains positive customer relationships: The Truck Driver delivers to many different Lake County locations in North Chicago, Abbott Park, Amhurst, and Conway Park. Excellent customer service skills are necessary because the driver delivers to many different locations and various AbbVie personnel throughout the day. When problems arise with deliveries, the Driver must try and resolve the issue. If a solution cannot be found, the Driver must contact the Group Leader.

  • Works consistently with minimal supervision and must coordinate his delivery schedule depending on need and urgency.


Qualifications


  • High School Education or equivalent required. Must be able to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions, and use computers for tracking and information.

  • Ability to obtain Forklift License is required.

  • Requires excellent driving skills and outstanding customer skills.

  • Must have a broad knowledge of materials, parts, tools, and equipment used by various tradesmen. Must have a valid driver’s license that permits the driving of vehicles up to 26,000 lbs. with air brakes.
