Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Electromechanical Engineer to manage primary engineering activities for AIS and GIS substations from concept through commissioning. You will coordinate Civil, Secondary, and SCM teams, act as the main technical contact, and drive cost-effective, innovative solutions while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will develop base and detailed design documents, evaluate risks with the Project Manager, and support installation through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electromechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in single-line diagrams, layout and detailed bus configurations.
• Background in EPC project environments and NEC/IEEE standards.

Join Hitachi Energy and help deliver critical substation infrastructure that supports the reliability, safety, and performance of the power grid. In this role, you will Manage Primary Engineering (Electromechanical) activities across the full lifecycle of Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) and Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV substation.

You will work on a wide range of primary engineering activities, including single line diagram, layout, elevation, grounding, associated calculations, cable engineering, etc. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and installation team, you will help develop practical and cost-effective solutions for complex projects while supporting successful project execution from design through construction and commissioning. Your work will contribute directly to dependable grid operation, project quality, and continuous improvement initiatives while providing opportunities to expand your technical expertise across advanced substation technologies.

Your background

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical /mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3+years of experience in electromechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in developing single-line diagrams, Layout, detail design for various bus configuration.
• Knowledge in substation design calculations, including grounding, short-circuit forces, cable ampacity, cable and conduit schedules, Auxiliary AC and DC design and related engineering software tools.
• Comprehensive understanding of NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, and high‑voltage air‑insulated and gas‑insulated substation technologies.
• Background in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project environments.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally.
• Must have valid work authorization permitting employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Proficient in BIM / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Revit for 3D modeling.
• Possesses a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one.
