Job summary

McLain Site Solutions in Jacksonville, FL, is seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to oversee field operations on heavy civil construction projects. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of Superintendent or senior field leadership experience.
  • Experience with site development, underground utilities, earthwork, grading, concrete, storm drainage, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to read construction plans, specifications, utility profiles, grading plans, and contracts.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and project stakeholders.

Position Summary

McLain Site Solutions is seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to oversee all field operations on heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for managing daily job site activities, supervising field personnel, coordinating subcontractors, equipment, and materials, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. The Project Superintendent serves as the primary field representative and works closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Survey Crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Field Management & Coordination
  • Lead and supervise all daily field operations on assigned construction projects.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, field crews, equipment, deliveries, and material staging.
  • Develop and maintain daily work plans to achieve production goals.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Maintain and update project schedules, adjusting manpower and resources as needed.
  • Coordinate survey crews, utility crews, grading crews, concrete crews, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization.
  • Anticipate project challenges and implement solutions to maintain schedules.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings, weekly toolbox talks, and site safety inspections.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions immediately.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with excavation, trenching, confined space, traffic control, and heavy equipment safety requirements.
  • Maintain all required safety documentation and submit reports to the Safety Manager.
  • Participate in accident investigations and implement corrective action plans.
Quality Control & Documentation
  • Ensure all work complies with project plans, specifications, contracts, and company quality standards.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders before work begins.
  • Verify line, grade, elevations, utility installations, and completed work.
  • Identify and resolve quality issues promptly.
  • Complete daily reports, production logs, equipment reports, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure punch list items are completed.
Leadership & Communication
  • Serve as the primary field liaison between Project Managers, field crews, clients, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Foremen and field personnel.
  • Maintain professional relationships with owners, municipalities, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct project coordination meetings and communicate project updates to management.
  • Foster a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment.
Project Planning & Cost Control
  • Review contracts, construction documents, plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Assist with project planning, sequencing, logistics, and manpower forecasting.
  • Coordinate material procurement and equipment scheduling.
  • Monitor project budgets, labor costs, equipment utilization, and subcontractor performance.
  • Assist Project Managers with cost control, change orders, production tracking, and project forecasting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce project costs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 5 years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • Minimum 1 years of Superintendent or senior field leadership experience.
  • Experience managing site development, underground utilities, earthwork, grading, concrete, storm drainage, and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, production planning, scheduling, and field operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, utility profiles, grading plans, and contracts.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors, crews, and project stakeholders.
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Proficiency in Contractor Foreman, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with FDOT, municipal, commercial, and private site development projects.
  • Experience with GPS machine control and construction surveying.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • CDL.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work on active construction sites.
  • Walk long distances across uneven terrain.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Wear required PPE while on project sites.
Schedule
  • Monday–Friday
  • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • One-hour unpaid lunch
  • Additional hours, evenings, or weekends may be required to meet project schedules and deadlines.
