How You’ll Contribute
The Lead ESS Installation Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients, as well as leading and overseeing the work of other installation technicians at the work site. This position is the key field role for the bulk of the actual work that gets done in our clients’ buildings. The Lead Install Tech coordinates with project management, field superintendents, and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret drawing packages, build areas such as racks and enclosures, terminate panels, IP a device network, install devices, test, and troubleshoot, and handle our most complex system designs.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee the work of other ESS Installation Technicians on a given project site while also performing as an Installation Technician.
- Know and learn what is on the BOM for every job and understand the material required for your job.
- Maintain the timeline of the job schedule with regards to when devices/head‑end work needs to be installed and terminated.
- Communicate any timeline issues to the site supervisor ASAP.
- Take ownership of job schedules for the workload given to you.
- Prioritize your time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Maintain constant daily communication with the Site Supervisor.
- Identify and report any problems found in drawings or matrices to the Site Supervisor ASAP.
- Notify the Site Supervisor ASAP if equipment is missing or defective; request replacements promptly.
- Help the Site Supervisor with inventory when needed, maintaining an online copy on OneNote.
- Keep written records on One Note of work accomplished, project issues, problems to discuss, site readiness documents, site inventory, Redlines/RFIs, and the need for assistance or guidance.
- Assist installation technicians with questions or concerns about installation of devices/head‑end work.
Complexity
This level of technician will perform tasks on client sites with no supervision. The position is the key and only senior field supervisor in many situations and is responsible for coordination with clients, contractors, and subcontractors. It requires the highest level of technical and people skills.
Decision Making Authority
Often alone on job sites, this role requires good judgment to make onsite decisions on behalf of the PM. It demands diplomacy in working with clients and other key stakeholders.
Physical Demands
May be exposed to construction site conditions; must wear PPE; spend at least 50% of time on feet and be mobile; climb ladders, use stairs, lift up to 40 lbs; use keyboards, test equipment; vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision. When off sites, perform normal office tasks.
Safety
- Maintain and wear appropriate PPE as required.
- Ensure hazards are addressed and rectified timely.
What You’ll Bring
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required Skills/Qualifications
- 3+ years of recent experience installing access control and video surveillance cameras in large‑scale commercial environments, preferably data centers and new construction.
- Experience supervising others and providing helpful feedback.
- Ability to train and coach others to Diversified standards.
- Lenel experience or certification preferred.
- Understand and install access control/CCTV systems; troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Administrative capabilities: proficient with Teams, Outlook, OneNote, BlueBeam, and Adobe Reader.
- Knowledge of project drawings, programming matrices, SRDs, UILs, job hazard analysis, task hazard analysis, risk hazard analysis, RFIs, and redlines.
- Maintain schedules and follow DIV28 specifications for quality control.
- Experience with Genetec, Avigilon, Lenel, AMAG, S2, Honeywell, Software House, Bosch, DMP.
- Knowledge of mechanical retrofitting of door frames and gates for electric locking hardware and peripherals.
- Knowledge of network interfaces for devices such as access controllers, IP cameras, intercoms, switches.
- Experience with PC admin changes to connect IP cameras and camera aiming.
- Clean driving record and ability to operate a vehicle.
- Clean criminal record; able to hold required security clearance/registration (DCJS, TS Clearance, etc).
- Active passport or ability to obtain and travel regularly.
- Able to work indoors/outdoors, standing, sitting, ladder use, lift 40 lbs.
