Job summary

Sertoma Center, Inc. is seeking an Instructor for Project SEARCH Knoxville, TN to develop and coordinate the program and deliver employability skills curriculum.

You will work with each intern’s team to reach competitive employment goals, recruit students, and connect them with community services. You will facilitate planning meetings, identify internship sites, track progress, and help interns build resumes and portfolios while updating the member portal and coordinating with the steering

Qualifications

• CRP staff must have at least 12 months of work experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Minimum of two years successful, recent, and relevant experience as a classroom instructor or program coordinator.
• Demonstrated ability to employ a variety of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learner.
• Knowledgeable of current best practices in transition and supported employment.
• Experienced in differentiating lessons and settings to meet varied learning styles.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills that promote relationships with interns, families, staff, and agencies.
• Organizational ability, self-directedness, and initiative with multiple tasks.
• Ability to make decisions and problem-solve within a team of service providers.

Responsibilities

• Recruit appropriate students with disabilities for Project SEARCH program.
• Attend community events for possible student recruits.
• Connect students to State Rehabilitation Services or local Developmental Disabilities agencies.
• Identify internship sites within host businesses to build a portfolio of marketable skills.
• Ensure internships include measurable skills gain assessed by productivity, quality, and safety benchmarks.
• Facilitate Employment Planning Meetings with interns, families, and agencies to plan career interests and job preferences.
• Identify and solve challenges affecting program completion and employment.
• Design accommodations using universal design principles at internship sites.
• Use VocFit and other tools to evaluate progress and communicate with the team.
• Develop resumes/portfolios documenting skills and experiences.
• Provide employability skills curriculum in classroom and reinforce in internships.
• Maintain Student Portal records of staff changes, internships, and outcomes.
• Participate in Project SEARCH Steering Committee and onsite meetings.
• Coordinate onsite skills trainers to support interns.
• Work with business liaison to secure employment at host business or community.
• Coordinate travel training via public transportation when appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
