Job description

Role Overview

Our Water Asset Design team works primarily in the municipal water sector as well as the non‑regulated (industrial / international) sector. Our clients include some of the largest water companies in the UK and contractor partners. We deliver wastewater treatment, water treatment, sewerage, and network schemes, ranging from routine maintenance to large national projects. We are recruiting a Project Manager to join our Water team in Belfast, leading multidisciplinary teams from optioneering through delivery and handover to the client.

Responsibilities
  • Manage project proposals, determining requirements, scope, resources, programme, and cost estimates for delivery.
  • Own the P&L, including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budgeting, forecasting, risk reviews, cost control, accounts payable/billing and cash collection.
  • Develop project management documentation such as plans, cost estimates, forecasts, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder registers and organisation charts to deliver project objectives.
  • Monitor and control the project schedule, man‑hours, budgets, forecasts, and expenditure.
  • Ensure effective contract management including administration and change management.
  • Manage work performed by project team members, including assistant PMs, ensuring outputs meet project requirements.
  • Handle project deliverables, information, and records.
  • Communicate relevant project information accurately to the team and customer.
  • Anticipate and take pre‑emptive action to address issues and potential conflicts impacting delivery.
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary teams of technical staff and suppliers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and capture lessons learned.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects; exposure to regulated or non‑regulated water projects is highly advantageous.
  • Working knowledge or accreditation in NEC with necessary technical and practical skills to administer NEC Contracts.
  • Membership of professional institutions such as APM, PMI, or MICE.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools and software.
  • Demonstrated competence in stakeholder management, risk management, planning/scheduling, and commercial management.
Benefits

  • Work‑life balance initiatives such as the “WSP My Hour” for personal activities and flexible leave options.
  • Health and wellbeing support through the Thrive programme, including a virtual GP service and reasonable workplace adjustments.
