Overview
Our client are seeking a proactive and experienced Project Manager to join their team, working closely with major clients, primarily Southern Water and other Tier 1 construction partners. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle within the utilities sector, managing a variety of projects that differ in scale and complexity. You will lead a dedicated team of technical professionals focused on delivering high-quality solutions that meet our clients’ expectations.
About the Role:
As a Project Manager, having prior knowledge of the wastewater industry and experience within the construction sector is essential. Our client are looking for someone with a practical, adaptable mindset who embraces innovation and is eager to help bring forward-thinking technologies to life. This position may also involve managing internal business transformation initiatives to support the organisation's growth and development.
Hybrid working can be offered, with relevant office and site visits as required.
The ideal candidate would be based within Hampshire and open to travel across the county, some sites may be in Surrey or Sussex.
Key Requirements
- Previous experience in project management within the water industry· (ESSENTIAL)
- An overall MEICA understanding would be advantageous, however the client would consider candidates that are either Mechanically or Electrically biased.
- Candidates with a civils background may be considered, but would need to have an extensive technical water background.
- A candidate with previous experience managing multiple schemes simultaneously would be of interest.
- Understanding of wastewater systems and related design.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organised with excellent time management
- Proficient in using IT systems and tools
- Ideally you will have relevant formal qualifications within your discipline.
Core Responsibilities
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear communication and strong working relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conducting detailed site surveys to assess requirements, constraints, and opportunities, ensuring accurate project planning and delivery.
- Managing tender processes, including preparation, evaluation, and coordination with suppliers and stakeholders.
- Contributing to design stages by providing technical input, practical insights, and coordination support to ensure designs meet project and client requirements.
- Handling procurement activities, including sourcing, ordering, and coordinating materials and services in line with project schedules and budgets.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance project delivery, efficiency, and overall project management effectiveness.
- Overseeing contract management from signature through to final invoicing, working closely with the finance team to ensure compliance with frameworks, contractual obligations, and internal account processes.
- Developing and managing project budgets to ensure delivery within agreed financial parameters, proactively identifying and reporting any cost variances.
- Establishing and monitoring project performance metrics and KPIs, providing regular, detailed status updates and reports to both clients and internal management.
- Overseeing project planning and execution, ensuring timelines, resources, and deliverables are effectively managed.
- Preparing final project documentation and managing project handovers to ensure a smooth transition to clients or operational teams.
- Undertaking site visits and travel as required to support project delivery and stakeholder engagement.
- Managing a diverse range of projects either independently or collaboratively as part of a wider team, with full support from an experienced management group.
