Job summary

HKA Enterprises in Maryland is seeking an entry-level Project Manager within our Energy Project Management career path. You will manage smaller projects with guidance from senior PMs, coordinating technical staff and liaising with vendors to ensure smooth execution from initiation through completion.

This role emphasizes learning and growth, with responsibilities to develop project plans, monitor scope, schedule and budget, and support subcontractors and QA processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (AEC industry) plus 2 years of related professional experience, or 6 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical knowledge in the relevant project field.
  • Knowledge of project management software and tools.
  • Understanding of industry standards related to project management, quality assurance, and safety.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Negotiation skills for managing contracts, scope changes, and stakeholder agreements.
  • Master's degree in a related field (AEC industry) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects, including technical staff, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan (objectives, scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, safety protocols)
  • Develop project-specific scope of work and contract documents in compliance with client requirements
  • Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets; implement cost-control measures as needed
  • Uphold quality standards and oversee QA processes throughout project execution
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns professionally and promptly
  • Manage compliance with contract scope, schedule, fee, and change orders
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks; develop mitigation and contingency plans
  • Mentor less experienced staff and support their training and development
  • Provide input on and implement project-specific safety plans
  • Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients/subconsultants
  • Develop project schedules from inception to completion
  • Report monthly proposal/business development results and project performance
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target
  • Prepare monthly project completion reports, progress reports, and inter-practice agreements
  • Manage project cash flow (WIP/AR) and provide monthly comments to Finance and Operations
  • Participate in project opportunity evaluation, consultant selection, and proposal preparation
  • Identify new business opportunities and participate in client presentations
  • Support project closeout, including write-ups and photos for marketing/resume use
  • Fully manage technical deliverables required in contract scope
  • Compare field data to design plans; conduct site visits and gather data
  • Prepare design phases and deliverables for approval
  • Maintain knowledge of current state and/or municipal policies, procedures, and guidelines
