HICO is an ISO 9001 and 14001 certified company, with primary business in power system products.

HICO America is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong electrical construction background to lead turnkey Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) substation projects. This role is ideal for a construction-focused project leader who understands field execution, subcontractor management, project scheduling, cost control, and the coordination required to successfully deliver complex electrical infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing electrical construction or utility infrastructure projects from engineering and procurement through field installation, testing, commissioning, and final turnover. Experience with GIS and/or STATCOM substations is beneficial, but a strong background in substation construction, high-voltage electrical systems, or EPC project execution is equally valuable.

This is an opportunity to lead complex electrical infrastructure projects that require practical construction knowledge, strong project leadership, and the ability to bring engineering, procurement, and field execution together. We're looking for a results-oriented Project Manager who takes ownership, anticipates problems, builds strong working relationships, and drives projects safely and successfully from kickoff through final turnover.

THE NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities across engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and commissioning teams.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor critical milestones, identify potential delays, and implement recovery plans as needed.
  • Manage field construction activities and coordinate resolution of site issues, constructability challenges, design discrepancies, and material or equipment constraints.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, construction progress, resource requirements, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, commitments, change orders, and commercial issues to protect project margins.
  • Serve as the primary project-level interface with the customer, leading project status meetings, addressing concerns, and managing expectations.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables, drawing reviews, RFIs, submittals, and technical issues to support uninterrupted construction progress.
  • Manage equipment procurement and vendor commitments, including equipment delivery, installation support, testing, and commissioning requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks while ensuring quality requirements, safety expectations, contractual obligations, and documentation requirements are met.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch-list completion, customer turnover, final documentation, and lessons learned.
EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience managing electrical construction, substation, utility infrastructure, or industrial EPC projects.
  • Strong understanding of field construction execution, subcontractor coordination, project scheduling, cost control, and change management.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements and resolve issues affecting field execution.
  • Strong commercial awareness, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage project financial performance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, customer management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with high-voltage substations and GIS installations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with project management and document-control tools, including Autodesk for RFI and submittal tracking, is beneficial.
