Job summary

HICO America, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking an GIS Installation Service Manager to oversee GIS project installations across North America. The role acts as the primary onsite technical representative, coordinating installation activities, commissioning support, and ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

The ideal candidate will have experience with high-voltage equipment, be able to read AC/DC schematics, and travel extensively to customer sites.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret AC and DC schematic drawings.
• Experience wiring, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.
• Experience using cranes and forklifts.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Mechanically inclined with hand tools.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office).
• HVAC knowledge beneficial.
• 2-year associate or specialized degree in Electronics/Electrical or Electrical/Mechanical Technology or 3 years related substation/switchgear experience.
• Ability to travel by plane and drive across the United States.

The GIS Installation Service Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the installation, commissioning support, and successful execution of Product-Only Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) projects at customer sites throughout North America and potentially internationally. This highly travel-intensive position serves as the primary field representative for GIS installation activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, customer requirements, and project schedules.

THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Act as the primary onsite technical representative for Product-Only GIS projects.
• Monitor installation progress and ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and installation procedures.
• Identify and resolve technical, logistical, and installation-related issues that may impact project schedules or performance.
• Conduct site inspections and provide detailed progress reports to internal project teams and management.
• Support commissioning activities and collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and service teams.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Experience with high-voltage electrical equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance, or project execution preferred.
• Strong understanding of electrical substation equipment and construction practices.
• Proven ability to lead and coordinate field activities across multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and installation documentation.

EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Ability to read and interpret AC and DC schematic drawings

• Ability to self-control under pressure and fast-paced work-environment
• Ability to travel via airplane as well as drive an automobile across the United States
• Valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance
• Ability to meet required deadline
• Ability to build trusty and co-operative relationships with suppliers, customers, co-workers, and management team
