Job summary

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Travelling Commercial Electrical Project Manager to plan, manage, and deliver medium to large commercial electrical construction projects from award through closeout.

The PM will direct the APM and FM, overseeing schedule, budget, and quality across the full lifecycle, with Meridian, MS as the first jobsite. The role requires 5+ years of PM experience in commercial electrical projects, travel 100%, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Experience managing medium to large commercial electrical construction projects from award through closeout.
• Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with project management and scheduling platforms (Acumatica, Procore) and tracking submittals, RFIs, PCOs, and project financials.
• Strong written and verbal communication with GCs, owners, architects, and internal teams.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
• Valid driver's license and regular travel between job sites.
• Must pass criminal background check and drug test.
• 5+ years of commercial electrical PM experience preferred; supervisory experience over APM- or FM-level staff.

Responsibilities

• Visit sites weekly for QC and progress checks; participate in key meetings.

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is seeking an experienced Travelling Commercial Electrical Project Manager to plan, manage, and deliver medium to large commercial electrical construction projects from award through closeout in the Gulf South Region. The PM directs the Assistant Project Manager (APM) and Field Manager (FM) on every job and is accountable for schedule, budget, and quality across the full project lifecycle. Although this position will be primarily a travelling position, the first jobsite is located in Meridian, MS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Planning, Schedule & WBS: Create and actively manage the project schedule and work breakdown structure (WBS) from award through closeout. Update durations, float, and critical path as conditions change — both are living documents the PM owns start to finish.
• Decision-Making: Serve as the job's decision-maker when options and obstacles arise.
• Point of Contact — Construction Team: Serve as the primary liaison between the field team and the GC, owner, and other trades. All key external communication channels through the PM.
• Executive Communication: Track and report project goals upward. Keep leadership informed on status, risk, schedule, and financials.
• Quality Control: Maintain standards across all project work. Coordinate corrections with the field immediately.
• Schedule & Target Adjustments: Adjust plans when the project changes — scope, financing, or field conditions — and communicate revisions to all stakeholders.
• Financial Management: Complete billings per contract requirements. Manage AR — track invoices and follow up on payment. Review and approve all project invoices before submission or payment.
• Labor Management: Know your crew's capabilities. Manage labor projections to stay ahead of budget. Coordinate all labor moves with the Field Manager.
• Change Order Management: Identify, price, and submit change orders per contract — on time, every time. Never permit out-of-scope work without written direction.
• Job Site Visits & Meetings: Visit the site at minimum weekly for QC and progress checks. Attend all job meetings — OAC, GC coordination, owner-driven.
• Marketing: Treat every interaction with an owner, GC, or architect as a marketing opportunity. Deliver on commitments, communicate professionally, and bring relationship opportunities to leadership.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience managing medium to large commercial electrical construction projects from award through closeout, including schedule, budget, and crew oversight.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and applicable local codes, with the ability to read blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with project management and scheduling platforms (e.g., Acumatica, Procore) and the ability to track submittals, RFIs, PCOs, and project financials.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with GCs, owners, architects, and internal teams, including the APM, FM, and executive leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Valid driver's license; role requires regular travel between job sites.
• Must comply with a criminal background check and drug test.
• Preferred: 5+ years of commercial electrical project management experience, and prior supervisory experience over APM- or FM-level staff.

POSITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Splits time between the office and active commercial construction job sites. Extended hours that vary by job, with weekend work as business needs require. Regular attendance is an essential function.
• Must be able to navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain, ladders, and scaffolding, while wearing required PPE.
• Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work for scheduling, billing, and reporting, alternated with on-site walkthroughs and inspections in varying weather conditions.
