Job summary

Electrical Corporation of America is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support planning, cost control, scheduling, procurement, and documentation for electrical construction projects from award through closeout.

In this role you will liaise with project managers and field leadership, monitor progress and budgets, prepare reports, and help drive project profitability and timely execution.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of relevant electrical/construction project coordination experience.
  • Experience supporting procurement, submittals, RFIs, scheduling, and cost tracking.
  • Strong knowledge of drawings, specifications, and field operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support project managers in planning, coordinating, and tracking electrical construction projects from award through closeout.

Job description

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the planning, coordination, financial management, and execution of electrical construction projects from award through closeout. Working closely with Project Managers and field leadership, the APM assists with project cost control, scheduling, procurement, documentation, contract administration, and communication. The APM serves as an important link between office and field operations and is expected to develop a strong understanding of electrical construction, project controls, financial performance, and overall project execution. This position provides a pathway for continued growth into Project Manager and other project leadership roles.

What You’ll Do

Project Coordination & Controls

  • Support Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and tracking electrical construction projects from award through closeout.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress against schedules and help identify potential delays, critical activities, and productivity concerns.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly project reporting, forecasting, and project reviews.
  • Track key project performance indicators, including cost, schedule, labor productivity, budget utilization, forecast accuracy, and change orders.
  • Participate in project meetings, coordination meetings, site walks, and project reviews.
  • Assist Project Managers with tracking project expenditures, commitments, budgets, forecasts, and overall financial performance.
  • Monitor actual and committed costs against project budgets and identify potential variances.
  • Assist with cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and project profitability analysis.
  • Review invoices, subcontractor payments, purchase orders, and change orders with Project Managers.
  • Help identify potential cost overruns and support the development of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting project documentation.

Contract & Change Management

  • Assist with the preparation and administration of subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and other project documentation.
  • Track scope changes, potential change orders, claims, and contract requirements.
  • Support Project Managers in monitoring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Assist with identifying cost, schedule, and contractual risks and help track appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for changes, claims, and other contractual matters.

Field Labor & Procurement Coordination

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, BIM/VDC, prefabrication, estimating, procurement, and other project personnel to maintain alignment between office and field operations.
  • Assist with tracking manpower, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material requirements.
  • Monitor material releases, equipment lead times, procurement status, and deliveries against project schedules.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to help resolve procurement or delivery issues.
  • Support communication of project priorities, changes, and performance information to field leadership.

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate and organized project records, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, meeting minutes, correspondence, and financial documentation.
  • Maintain project information within the company’s project management systems.
  • Track RFIs, submittals, action items, and other project deliverables through completion.
  • Assist with owner and general contractor communication, including progress reports, pay applications, schedule updates, and project correspondence.
  • Prepare project dashboards, KPI reports, and other management information as requested.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, general contractors, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

Project Closeout

  • Support project closeout activities, including punch-list coordination and tracking.
  • Assist with the collection and submission of warranties, O&M manuals, as-built documentation, and other turnover requirements.
  • Help ensure project records and closeout documentation are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in electrical construction, commercial/industrial construction, project engineering, or project coordination preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, electrical trade experience, and construction experience will be considered.
  • Experience supporting electrical construction projects through procurement, submittals, RFIs, change management, scheduling, cost tracking, and project documentation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical drawings, specifications, construction documents, and field operations is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with Project Managers, field supervision, general contractors, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical construction, project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, forecasting, and change management.
  • Proficiency with project management platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or equivalent, along with Microsoft Excel and standard business tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling software preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify project risks, recognize performance trends, and escalation concerns appropriately.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with office and field personnel, clients, contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, teamwork, and follow-through.
  • Ability and willingness to visit active construction sites and participate in project meetings and site walks as required.
