Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer to lead and grow our water resources practice in the Southeast. You will own complex projects, mentor a growing team, and collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver sustainable stormwater and flood management solutions for public and private sector clients.

The role requires 6+ years in water resources, strong modeling and design experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 6+ years of experience in water resources engineering.
• Strong experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and stormwater management design.
• Experience with green infrastructure and low impact development practices.
• Proficiency in preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcMap, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead client interactions.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and appropriately prioritize workflow.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to mentor staff and lead a high-performing team.
• Ability to perform field work including lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage water resources projects including stormwater master planning, drainage design, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
• Oversee watershed studies, capital improvement projects, and stormwater management solutions.
• Perform and manage hydrologic and hydraulic analyses (1D/2D modeling) and drainage design.
• Design and oversee stormwater management systems, erosion and sediment control plans, and NPDES permitting efforts.
• Develop and review contract documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets, including proposal development and fee negotiations.
• Perform and oversee FEMA Letter of Map Changes and related studies.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to team members.
• Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and budget goals.

On-site: Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
