Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a prominent mining group in Welkom to hire a results-driven Project Manager to optimize mining operations and drive improvements in safety, efficiency, and productivity. You will lead cross‑functional teams, develop project plans, manage budgets, and implement new technologies while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Relocation to the Free State may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 6 years of project management experience focused on operational improvements in mining.
• Proven track record delivering projects with measurable safety, efficiency, or cost improvements.
• Strong understanding of mining processes, equipment, and operational challenges.
• Experience with change management in operational environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of projects aimed at improving mining operational efficiency, safety, and cost‑effectiveness.
• Conduct detailed operational assessments to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for enhancement.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, resource allocation, timelines, and budget management.
• Manage cross‑functional teams, including engineers, geologists, and operational staff, to achieve project goals.
• Implement and monitor new technologies, methodologies, and best practices within mining operations.
• Ensure all projects comply with stringent safety standards, environmental regulations, and operational protocols.
• Manage project risks and develop contingency plans to address potential challenges.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders at all levels, including mine management and executive leadership, to ensure project buy‑in and support.
• Track project progress using key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular, accurate reports on project status.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure the successful adoption of project outcomes by operational teams.

• Ability to work effectively in both office and mine site environments.


• Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Welkom area, Free State.
