About the Position

Canyon Contracting, Inc. is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Operations team in Richmond, VA.

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of assigned concrete construction projects—from planning and preconstruction through completion. This position manages project budgets, schedules, contracts, risk, quality, and customer relationships while working closely with Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.

The Project Manager serves as a key connection between the field and office and plays an important role in delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the customer's expectations.

What You'll Do

• Manage the overall direction and execution of assigned concrete construction projects.
• Review project drawings, specifications, scope of work, and contract requirements to understand project expectations and requirements.
• Manage project budgets, financial forecasting, cost tracking, and profitability.
• Identify and actively manage project risks.
• Conduct pre-startup site visits and help establish project logistics, including safety concerns, site hazards, and utilities.
• Schedule and facilitate pre-job meetings with Superintendents, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Attend required internal and external project meetings and provide concrete-industry expertise and contract guidance.
• Work closely with Superintendents and Foremen to plan, organize, and direct project activities.
• Develop, track, and manage RFIs and project submittals.
• Develop, maintain, and evaluate project production schedules.
• Monitor projects to ensure they are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Assist field leadership in resolving scope and subcontractor issues.
• Manage project quality requirements and ensure quality control plans are followed.
• Price, negotiate, track, and close change orders.
• Work with the project team to complete punch lists and successfully close out projects.
• Ensure project processes and company policies are followed.
• Support compliance with project safety plans.
• Organize and lead pre-pour meetings as the concrete subject matter expert.
• Build strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen customer relationships and generate future work.
• Support, lead, coach, and develop Assistant Project Managers as needed.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience managing concrete construction projects.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets, maximize profitability, and control project costs.
• Strong understanding of construction project processes and what is required for successful project completion.
• Experience with project forecasting, financial tracking, and risk management.
• Proven ability to negotiate contracts and change orders.
• Strong knowledge of RFIs, RFPs, and the material submittal process.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to make timely and complex decisions.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of construction industry practices, processes, and standards.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes, zoning requirements, OSHA requirements, and other applicable regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.

The Successful Candidate

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of their projects, communicate effectively with both customers and field teams, understand the financial side of construction, and proactively address issues before they become problems.

Work Environment

This is a combination of office and construction-site work. The Project Manager must be comfortable working in a variety of construction environments and weather conditions and may be required to stand, bend, climb, kneel, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
