Job description

Tucson Asphalt Contractors, Inc. has been serving Southern Arizona for over 30 years, providing high-quality asphalt paving, pavement maintenance, concrete, and construction services for commercial, municipal, and private clients. Based in Tucson, AZ, we are proud to be a 100% employee-owned company , where every team member has a personal stake in our success and a commitment to delivering exceptional results. We are known for our dedication to safety, quality workmanship, customer service, and building lasting relationships with our clients and communities. Our experienced teams work collaboratively to successfully deliver projects throughout every phase, from planning and coordination to completion.

Tucson Asphalt Contractors (TAC) is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our team and take ownership of asphalt and concrete projects from award through final closeout.

This is a hands-on construction management position for someone who understands that successful project management means more than keeping a schedule. Our Project Managers are responsible for knowing what we sold, what we are building, what it should cost, what is happening in the field, and whether the project is performing as expected. Our Project Managers are expected to identify cost and production issues during construction—not at the end of the job. They also own project financial performance, including tracking costs, billing, percent complete, cost to complete, and projected final margin.

You’ll work closely with Estimating, Operations, Superintendents, Foremen, clients, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and our administrative team to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and profitably.

What You’ll Do
  • Take ownership of projects from estimating handoff through final closeout
  • Review contracts, proposals, plans, specifications, quantities, budgets, production assumptions, schedules, and project requirements
  • Develop project plans, sequencing, schedules, production goals, and resource needs
  • Coordinate asphalt plants, concrete, trucking, materials, subcontractors, traffic control, testing, survey, and other project resources
  • Maintain and communicate a 3-week look-ahead schedule
  • Partner closely with Superintendents and Foremen to ensure the field understands scope, budget, production expectations, and client requirements
  • Monitor labor, equipment, trucking, materials, subcontractors, quantities, production, and overall project performance
  • Regularly compare actual vs. estimated costs and production and address issues before they impact the project
  • Manage client and inspector communication while maintaining strong working relationships
  • Identify, document, price, track, and bill change-order work
  • Maintain accurate project documentation for delays, changed conditions, additional work, quantities, testing, quality issues, and client direction
  • Oversee project billing, cost-to-complete projections, receivables, retainage, and projected final margin
  • Manage punch lists, final acceptance, project closeout, and post-project review
  • Work with Estimating and Operations to review lessons learned and improve future project performance
Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who is organized, accountable, proactive, and comfortable balancing both the field and financial sides of construction.

The ideal candidate will have experience with asphalt paving, concrete, civil/site work, or a closely related construction environment. You should be comfortable reading plans and specifications, managing schedules and budgets, communicating with field leadership and clients, and making decisions in a fast-moving environment.

Experience with municipal/public work, commercial projects, HOAs, private work, change orders, certified payroll requirements, pay applications, and construction cost tracking is a plus.
