The General Superintendent provides overall leadership and direction for TAC’s asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete field operations. This position oversees and develops Superintendents and Foremen while ensuring projects are properly staffed, coordinated, and executed safely, efficiently, and according to TAC’s standards for quality and professionalism.
The General Superintendent serves as a critical connection between the field, Project Management, Scheduling, Safety, and Executive Leadership. This individual must understand not only how to execute asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete work, but also how field decisions involving labor, equipment, production, scheduling, and downtime affect project performance and profitability.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means TAC’s paving, paving maintenance, and concrete operations are planned rather than reactive. Superintendents and Foremen understand what is expected of them, crews have the manpower, equipment, materials, and information they need, projects are hitting production goals, problems are addressed quickly, and communication between the field and office is consistent.
The successful General Superintendent will build strong leaders beneath them—not become the person who has to personally solve every problem. Over time, the strength of the position should be visible through better planning, stronger accountability, improved production, fewer surprises, safer jobsites, higher-quality work, and improved project profitability.
Ideal Candidate
TAC is looking for someone with significant asphalt paving, paving maintenance, concrete, and/or roadway construction experience, along with a proven history of successfully leading multiple crews, Superintendents, and Foremen.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of paving operations, asphalt production and placement, compaction and quality expectations, pavement maintenance operations, and concrete construction. This individual should also understand how labor, equipment utilization, trucking, materials, scheduling, production, and downtime directly affect job performance and profitability.
The ideal candidate is organized, decisive, approachable, accountable, and comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary.
Most importantly, this person must understand that leadership at TAC is about developing people, protecting the company, serving our customers, and helping our employee-owners succeed.
