Job summary

Tucson Asphalt Contractors, Inc. is hiring a skilled asphalt laborer to support paving crews on commercial projects across Southern Arizona. You will assist with spreading, leveling, and finishing asphalt, handwork around structures, equipment operation, and safety checks.

Qualifications

• Past asphalt paving experience preferred (1–3 years).
• Experience around heavy construction equipment.

Responsibilities

• Spread, level, lute, and rake hot mix asphalt to proper grade and thickness.
• Assist paving crew for smooth, even mat and clean joints.
• Handwork around structures (manholes, curbs, driveways).
• Ensure transitions between existing and new pavement.
• Assist with patching, repairs, and finishing work.
• Operate hand tools (rakes, lutes, shovels, tampers, plate compactors).
• Communicate with equipment operators to maintain quality and pace.
• Perform pre- and post-job cleanup and inventory of tools.

• Spread, level, lute, and rake hot mix asphalt to proper grade and thickness.
• Assist the paving crew in achieving a smooth, uniform mat and clean joints.
• Handwork around structures including manholes, valve boxes, catch basins, curbs, sidewalks, and driveways.
• Ensure proper transitions and tie-ins between existing pavement and new asphalt.
• Assist with asphalt patching, repairs, and finishing work.
• Operate hand tools including asphalt rakes, lutes, shovels, tampers, and plate compactors.
• Communicate effectively with paving equipment operators to maintain paving quality and production.
• Perform pre- and post-job cleanup, including removal of excess material and debris.
• Help load, unload, and maintain tools and equipment.
• Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
• Report equipment issues, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.

Qualifications

• Previous asphalt paving experience preferred (1-3 years), but training may be provided for motivated candidates.
• Experience working around heavy construction equipment.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
