Job description

Location: Southeast U.S.

Industry: Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

Experience: 5+ Years

We are exclusively representing a leading, well-established heavy civil general contractor in the search for an experienced Project Manager to join their Water & Wastewater team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong background in self-performed wastewater infrastructure construction who wants to take ownership of large, complex projects from preconstruction through completion.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will manage major wastewater treatment plants, water treatment facilities, pump stations, water reclamation facilities and associated infrastructure projects.

The contractor is heavily self-performing and operates across multiple disciplines, including civil, concrete, mechanical and electrical construction. Projects can involve large concrete structures, underground utilities, process piping, pumps and equipment, electrical systems, controls, site development and complex tie-ins to existing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of major water/wastewater projects
  • Manage projects from preconstruction through final completion and turnover
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and cost controls
  • Manage project financial performance, forecasting and reporting
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents and field leadership
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and consultants
  • Review contracts, plans, specifications and project requirements
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and potential cost impacts
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and procurement
  • Lead project meetings with owners, engineers and project stakeholders
  • Maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers and subcontractors
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule and within budget
  • Support estimating and preconstruction efforts on future opportunities
  • Assist with commissioning, start up and project closeout

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in heavy civil construction
  • Strong background delivering wastewater treatment plants or major water/wastewater infrastructure
  • Experience managing complex projects from preconstruction through completion
  • Strong understanding of civil construction, concrete, underground utilities and/or mechanical process systems
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts and financial performance
  • Ability to understand and interpret construction plans, specifications and contract documents
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working directly with owners, engineers and subcontractors
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel or work throughout the Southeast as project requirements dictate

Ideal Project Experience

Candidates with experience on projects involving the following are particularly relevant:

  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Pump Stations
  • Process Piping
  • Underground Utilities
  • Clarifiers, basins and treatment tanks
  • Mechanical Process Equipment
  • Electrical / Instrumentation / Controls
  • Plant Expansions and Upgrades
  • Rehabilitation of Existing Treatment Facilities
  • Design-Build Projects

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join an established infrastructure contractor with a long-standing reputation in water and wastewater construction, working on technically complex projects throughout the Southeast.

The organization is heavily focused on self-performed construction, meaning the Project Manager works closely with field teams and has genuine ownership of how projects are planned and delivered.

The project portfolio includes major water and wastewater infrastructure delivered through Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build and CM-at-Risk delivery methods.

The ideal candidate will be more than a contract administrator — they will be a builder and project leader who understands field operations, means and methods, project financials and the complexities involved in delivering major wastewater infrastructure.

If you have 5+ years of experience managing wastewater infrastructure projects for a self-performing heavy civil contractor, I would be very interested in speaking with you.
