Job description

The Axel Group is currently seeking a Project Manager to join our client’s team in the Orlando, FL area. Our client partners with leading contractors and builders across the commercial, institutional, healthcare, and industrial sectors, providing everything from tools and safety products to custom-fabricated strut grids, pipe hangers, and pre-engineered support systems. With a strong reputation, national footprint, and long-standing relationships throughout the construction industry, the company continues to grow its presence in key markets including healthcare, data centers, infrastructure, and commercial development.

The Project Manager role is a hands-on, high-ownership position focused on managing projects from award through installation and contract closeout. This individual will work closely with general contractors, construction managers, field crews, vendors, customers, and internal leadership to coordinate project requirements, maintain schedules, address issues, and ensure work is completed successfully. The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to take ownership of multiple projects while serving as a key point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.

While the position is primarily focused on Project Management, there is also a light estimating and preconstruction component. This includes reviewing drawings and specifications, assisting with material takeoffs, gathering pricing, reviewing project scopes, and supporting estimates and change orders. The ideal candidate does not need to be a career estimator, but should be comfortable reading construction documents, understanding project scope, and working with both field and office teams.

This position offers the opportunity to join a stable, privately held organization with 40+ years of industry experience, a national footprint, and significant resources behind its continued growth. You’ll work on a diverse range of projects while building relationships with some of the industry’s leading contractors and construction professionals. The company provides a competitive compensation package, full benefits including medical, dental, vision, PTO, and 401(k), along with strong opportunities for professional development and long-term career advancement.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple construction projects from initial kickoff through installation and final contract closeout.
  • Take ownership of project execution, ensuring work progresses according to plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate project schedules, materials, field installation crews, contractors, vendors, customers, and internal teams.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, general contractors, construction managers, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Coordinate with field teams and installation crews to ensure projects are properly executed and completed in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Monitor project progress, materials, costs, schedules, and overall execution while proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Troubleshoot project challenges and work with internal and external teams to resolve issues that may impact schedule, cost, quality, or customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal leadership regarding project status, priorities, and next steps.
  • Assist with light estimating, material takeoffs, pricing, and proposal development for new and existing project opportunities.
  • Review project scopes and assist with obtaining material, fabrication, and subcontractor pricing as needed.
  • Support the preparation and management of change orders, project documentation, billings, and contract closeout.
  • Coordinate with the sales team and internal leadership on new opportunities and ongoing customer relationships.
  • Visit active jobsites throughout the assigned regional territory to support project execution, customer needs, and field teams.
  • Maintain organized project records and ensure required documentation is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities across different stages of construction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and project management principles.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Ability to understand project scope and identify material, labor, and installation requirements.
  • Basic estimating and quantity takeoff experience preferred; this is a Project Management-focused position with a light estimating component.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills when working with customers, contractors, field teams, vendors, and internal personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and take ownership of finding solutions.
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments and regularly visiting active construction sites.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions while keeping customers and internal leadership informed.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general project management software; familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM, or construction-related software is a plus.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in construction project management, project coordination, or a related construction role preferred.
  • Construction-related degree or technical education preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing projects from kickoff through installation and closeout is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, or field installation teams preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Previous estimating, takeoff, or preconstruction experience is a plus but not the primary focus of the position.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned regional territory to support active projects and customers.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project locations as needed.

Our client offers a competitive compensation package along with a strong benefits program, including:

  • Performance-based incentive opportunities
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Long-term career stability with an established organization
Why Join Our Client
  • Join a privately held organization with 40+ years of proven success and a strong reputation within the construction industry.
  • Be part of a company with a national footprint and $600M+ in annual revenue, providing the resources and stability of a large organization while maintaining a strong, relationship-driven culture.
  • Work alongside a team with long-standing relationships with leading contractors, builders, and construction professionals across the country.
  • Gain exposure to projects across healthcare, data centers, infrastructure upgrades, commercial development, and other major construction markets.
  • Take meaningful ownership of projects from initial kickoff through installation and final closeout rather than being limited to one portion of the project lifecycle.
  • Build relationships directly with customers, contractors, construction managers, vendors, and field teams.
  • Join a role that combines project management, customer interaction, field coordination, problem-solving, and light estimating.
  • Work in a position offering significant autonomy and the ability to make an impact on day-to-day project execution.
  • Join an organization experiencing continued growth with opportunities to take on additional responsibility and advance your career over the long term.
