Project Manager - Utility of the Future / Test Lab Oversight

Location: Oakbrook, IL (hybrid) with travel to Maywood Test Lab Type: 1-Year Contract (with strong potential for extension)

Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a technically adept Project Manager to lead cutting-edge initiatives that support modernization of the electric grid. This position plays a key role in coordinating and overseeing testing, validation, and pilot projects within a dedicated lab environment designed to safely evaluate emerging technologies without impacting live operations. If you have experience managing utility-scale engineering or construction projects and are passionate about the future of clean, smart energy - we'd love to connect.

What You'll Do:

• Serve as the Project Manager for lab-based grid innovation pilots and studies
• Lead coordination of testing and validation for technologies such as; Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) like solar and battery storage, Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure and home automation, as well as Distribution automation, voltage/frequency response, and power quality monitoring
• Work closely with engineering, construction, and operations teams
• Oversee project budgets, timelines, forecasting, and risk mitigation
• Translate technical findings into business insights and strategic recommendations
• Ensure compliance with utility safety and performance standards
• Travel between the Oakbrook office and a dedicated test lab in Maywood, IL

What We're Looking For:

• 5+ years of experience managing projects within the electric utility, power systems, or energy sector
• Proven understanding of T&D systems, substation equipment, and grid modernization technologies
• Experience with equipment validation, commissioning, QA/QC, or test labs
• Strong stakeholder communication skills - both technical and non-technical
• Proficient with project tools like Primavera and MS Project
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred)
• PMP certification is a plus

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with SCADA, relay protection, or voltage regulation
• Exposure to smart grid or Utility of the Future programs
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, SKM, or other engineering software
