Job summary

Rockwell Sterling in North Carolina is seeking a Wastewater Project Manager to lead municipal wastewater infrastructure projects across the Southeast. You will manage construction from preconstruction through final turnover, drive schedules, budgets, and safety, and collaborate with owners, engineers, and field teams to deliver high-quality treatment facilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience.
  • Proven experience with wastewater treatment plant construction.
  • GC experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing municipal water/wastewater projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage wastewater construction projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage project financials, contracts, change orders and cost controls.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, owners and project stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent and field operations team to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review plans, specifications, submittals and RFIs.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain strong owner/client relationships.
  • Monitor project progress, quality, safety and schedule.
  • Manage project documentation and closeout activities.
  • Identify and resolve project issues while maintaining schedule and budget objectives.

About the Opportunity

A well-established General Contractor with a strong presence across the Southeast is seeking an experienced Wastewater Project Manager to join its growing Water & Wastewater division in North Carolina.

The company has a strong track record delivering complex municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including wastewater treatment plant construction, expansions, upgrades, pump stations, process facilities, and rehabilitation projects.

With a strong backlog of wastewater work across North Carolina, this is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager looking to take ownership of significant treatment-plant projects with an established contractor.

Responsibilities
  • Manage wastewater construction projects from preconstruction through final completion
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and forecasts
  • Manage project financials, contracts, change orders and cost controls

Project Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience working on inside-the-fence wastewater treatment projects, such as:

  • New wastewater treatment plants
  • WWTP expansions and upgrades
  • Aeration basins and biological treatment systems
  • Headworks
  • Pump stations
  • Process piping
  • Mechanical/process equipment
  • Biosolids and sludge treatment
  • Electrical, instrumentation and controls
  • Treatment plant rehabilitation and upgrades
Requirements
  • 5+ years of construction Project Management experience
  • Proven experience with wastewater treatment plant construction
  • General Contractor experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing municipal water/wastewater projects
  • Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling and contract administration
  • Ability to work effectively with field operations and project stakeholders
  • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field preferred
