POSITION SUMMARY: The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, financial performance, and successful completion of transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects. This position manages all aspects of assigned projects from contract award through closeout, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations.

The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for customers, coordinates internal and field resources, manages project financials, and works collaboratively with Operations, Estimating, Procurement, Safety, and Executive Leadership to deliver successful projects while supporting Atlantic Power Constructors' commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

  • Manage assigned construction projects from contract award through final closeout.
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure project milestones and contractual obligations are achieved.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead internal project kickoff meetings and ongoing project reviews.
  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation.
  • Maintain full responsibility for project profitability.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and forecasts.
  • Review labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs.
  • Prepare customer billings and review payment status.
  • Manage project cash flow and cost controls.
  • Review and approve project expenditures.
  • Identify and manage change orders and contract modifications.
  • Prepare financial projections and report project performance to leadership.

Customer Relations

  • Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project.
  • Build strong customer relationships through consistent communication.
  • Lead customer meetings and progress reviews.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.

Procurement and Contract Administration

  • Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Review purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
  • Ensure contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, correspondence, and closeout documentation.

Field Operations

  • Partner with Superintendents and General Foremen to execute work safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and material resources.
  • Remove obstacles affecting production or schedule.
  • Support operational planning and resource allocation across multiple projects.

Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress against milestones.
  • Communicate schedule impacts and recovery plans.
  • Coordinate activities with customers, subcontractors, and internal departments.

Safety and Quality

  • Promote APC's commitment to safety as the highest priority.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings and incident reviews.
  • Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and construction management experience considered.
  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible project management experience in utility construction.
  • Experience managing transmission, distribution, or substation construction projects strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing project financials, customer relationships, and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, scheduling, procurement, budgeting, and project controls.
  • Experience with Acumatica or similar ERP/project management software preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel regulary to project sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a professional office environment with frequent interaction with field employees, managers, and leadership. The role may require occasional coordination with field locations and supporting operational needs across the business.
