Job description

Commercial HVAC & Mechanical Construction

Jurupa Valley, CA (Inland Empire) | Full-Time, Exempt | $120,000–$140,000 Base + Performance Bonus up to 20%

About Unified Mechanical Group

Unified Mechanical Group (UMG) is a commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical contractor serving Southern California, with project work across government and municipal, healthcare, education, commercial, and industrial facilities. UMG is built on three principles we call the Gears: People, Process, and Purpose. We are a growing company with an ambitious five-year plan, and we are looking for people who want to help build something, not just maintain it.

The Opportunity

We are hiring an experienced Project Manager to own commercial HVAC and mechanical projects from award through closeout. This is a role for someone who thrives on ambiguity. As a growing company, UMG will not hand you a fully built playbook for every situation. We need a Project Manager who brings their own structure, urgency, and accountability to every job, and who is motivated by the chance to help shape how a company runs, not just execute someone else's process.

You will manage scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships in the field, leading crews, foremen, and subcontractors day to day. You will work closely with our estimating and service teams to keep projects on track from handoff through closeout, and you will be the primary point of accountability once a project leaves the sales process.

What You Will Do
  • Review awarded estimates and contracts, then build and manage detailed project schedules
  • Direct field crews, foremen, and subcontractors to execute work safely, on time, and on budget
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications, resolving field issues as they arise
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, and change orders with owners, general contractors, and engineers
  • Track project costs and protect margin, including billing, pay applications, and lien releases
  • Serve as UMG's primary point of contact for clients and general contractors throughout the project
  • Own project closeout: as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and final walkthroughs
What We're Looking For
  • 5 to 7+ years of project management experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical, or a closely related construction trade
  • Proven track record managing the full lifecycle of commercial mechanical projects, including new construction, retrofit, or tenant improvement work
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and the ability to read mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Experience managing project budgets, change orders, and subcontractor coordinationComfort working with project management and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Excel)
  • A valid California driver's license and a clean driving record
  • The drive to work independently, manage a shifting workload across multiple active jobs, and figure things out without a lot of hand-holding
  • Bonus points for prior field experience as a foreman, superintendent, or service technician; progress toward a PMP certification; LEED AP credential; or experience with public works, prevailing wage, healthcare, or education sector projects.

$120,000–$140,000 base salary, commensurate with experience

Performance bonus opportunity of up to 20% of base salary, tied to project margin, schedule adherence, and overall execution

Company vehicle provided for business use

Monthly phone allowance

Medical, dental, and vision insurance

Paid time off and company holidays

The opportunity to grow with a company in an active, well-capitalized growth phase
