Job summary

Carlson Engineering, Inc. in Fort Worth, TX, seeks a Project Manager to lead design, build, and automation of processing systems for food and beverage plants. You will coordinate customers, schedules, subcontractors, and Carlson labor, while purchasing equipment and managing budgets.

You’ll engage in day-to-day operations, travel to client sites as needed, and drive project success with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or STEM degree, or 10+ years of related experience.
• Food & Beverage manufacturing design/operational experience preferred.
• Willing to travel ~50% of the time, with brief periods >80%.
• US citizenship or work eligibility and valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

Since 1988, Carlson Engineering has successfully designed and implemented capital engineering projects for some of North America’s largest Food, Beverage and Dairy plants. The company was founded by John Carlson P.E., a 40 year veteran of Food and Dairy plant engineering and process automation. Starting in a garage with one client, Carlson Engineering has grown to occupy a 50,000 sq. ft. office and manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas and serves many of the industry’s largest producers. With over 300 years combined engineering experience in the Dairy industry, our team of talented engineers has successfully solved many of the industry’s toughest challenges. Our corporate office and manufacturing facility is where we support our growing staff of engineers, along with housing both our process systems and our control panel fabrication shops. POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a Project Manager with Carlson Engineering, you will work with a team of engineers to manage projects to design, build, and automate processing systems for food and beverage manufacturing plants.You will be responsible for communicating and interacting with customers, creating and updating project timelines, scheduling sub-contractors and Carlson labor resources, purchasing supplies and equipment, and overall coordination of projects.

You will become involved in the day-to-day operational and technical aspects of projects, and typical project assignments will include work in the office and travel to the client’s location as needed for support.You will be responsible for maintaining high customer satisfaction by handling and solving assigned technical issues and ensuring outstanding communication and follow-up with our clients. You will be empowered to make decisions that impact our client's day-to-day operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Read and analyze moderately complex technical procedures, process flow schematics, P&IDs, electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic drawings.
• Read, understand, and work within regulatory standards (FDA, PMO, USDA, OSHA, ect.)
• Develop an understanding of the customer’s processes, control methods, and the requirements for successful project completion.
• Meet with customers to understand their needs and schedule requirements for new projects.
• Work with a wide range of equipment suppliers to understand the specifications and design capabilities to meet the customers’ requirements.
• Work with sub-contractors to schedule and execute required work.
• Manage timelines of equipment deliveries.
• Manage the project budget and timelines.
• Communicate thoughts, ideas, and other written information, which may be technical in nature, in a logical, coherent, and persuasive manner.
• Be a critical team player during the start-up and commissioning of new process equipment within a plant floor environment.Candidate must excel in high pressure environments with strict performance deadlines.
• Work independently with little supervision, but with high personal and team accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Engineering, Project Management, or other STEM based degree or 10 plus years of experience.

Prior experience with the following is required:

• Food and Beverage Manufacturing design or operational experience
• Prior experience as a Project manager.
• Leading a professional team.

Willing to travel an average of 50% of the time, with brief periods exceeding 80%.

Speak, read and write fluent English.

Be a United States citizen or have documented proof of eligibility to work in the United States and have a current driver’s license.
