Project Manager II – Rail & Transit | Signals, Communications & Train Control
A well-established transportation engineering firm is seeking an experienced Project Manager II to join its Rail & Transit team in Boston.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned rail/transit professional to take on a key leadership role overseeing project delivery, client relationships, team coordination, financial performance, and business development across complex engineering projects.
Position Overview
The Project Manager II will be responsible for the successful delivery of mid-scale engineering projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
The role will serve as a primary point of contact for clients while coordinating technical teams, managing project resources, monitoring financial performance, and supporting the continued growth of existing client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of engineering projects from planning through delivery
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, and quality
- Coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams and delegate project responsibilities
- Serve as the primary day-to-day operational contact for clients
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, financial performance, and resource utilization
- Identify project risks, scope changes, and opportunities for change orders
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and support repeat business
- Contribute to proposals, pursuit strategy, scopes, fee development, and resource planning
- Support business development within existing client accounts
- Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers and technical staff
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures, contractual requirements, and internal standards
- Manage multiple projects or workstreams while maintaining delivery quality and performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred
- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience
- 4+ years of project management experience, including responsibility for projects, people, clients, and/or business development
- Experience managing or coordinating teams of 5+ employees
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required
- Experience in rail & transit, signals, communications, train control, or related transportation systems
- Strong understanding of project budgets, schedules, resource planning, and financial performance
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and support business development
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
