Job summary

Responsibilities
  • Administer contracts, ensure the team meets client requirements, align with regulatory agency criteria, and foster a high‑performance collaborative team environment.
  • Lead and support business development activities with key clients resulting in acquisition of new projects.
  • Perform the role of Project Manager supporting various projects and programs within a defined client portfolio.
  • Effectively lead and manage project teams throughout all phases of project planning, execution, and closeout consistent with established project delivery processes to meet the scope, schedule, budget, and other specified requirements stated in each contract.
  • Manage Rail/Transit related railroad engineering and project development activities.
  • Manage projects of all significance, including developing solutions for difficult problems/tasks of unusual complexity and scope that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.
  • Supervise related support staff.
  • Perform all levels of client contact, both internal and external.
  • Ensure overall responsibility for commercial or public sector projects, including technical, contractual, budget and schedule activities on medium to large projects and the development of client interfaces to promote continuing relations.
  • Plan, assist and direct and coordinate activities of projects to ensure the goals or objectives of these projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, and associated agencies that deal with clients.
  • Maintain contact with senior client management, office management and managers of applicable departments within Jacobs engaged transit projects.
  • Regularly monitor the progress of projects or tasks through project management reviews.
  • Work with marketing in preparation of contract proposals.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of assigned personnel and provide for and enforce proper delegation of management authority, responsibility and accountability.
  • Establish work plan and multi‑disciplinary staffing for each phase of project and arrange for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
  • Maintain positive relationships with current and past clients as assigned. Inform Operations Manager or Sales Manager of potential opportunities to market Jacobs’s services.
  • Serve as a representative of Jacobs at meetings, presentations, and public hearings/reviews relative to assigned projects.
  • Develop reviews and obtain confirmation of financial and project delivery schedule activities of design and construction as they relate to all disciplines involved.
  • Participate in industry societies, such as AREMA, APTA, IEEE. Jacobs encourages membership, active participation in committees and achieving leadership roles.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Substantial years of experience as a Project Manager with a focus on transit and rail infrastructure projects.
  • Technical knowledge of transit and rail design disciplines including, but not limited to, track, facilities, stations, grade crossings, rail systems and associated railcar facilities.
  • Experience with transit and commuter railroad clients in the Northeast, including MBTA, MassDOT Rail and Transit and Amtrak. Experience with Light Rail clients is a plus.
  • Strong engineering knowledge, leadership, oral and written communication skills, planning, teamwork, decision making, judgment and problem solving.
  • Experience with outside agencies that are connected to client projects. Experience with the City of Boston PIC Commission and approvals considered a plus.

The base salary range for this position is $130,000.00 to $190,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
