Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, SC seeks an Electrical Controls Engineer to maintain, upgrade, and optimize automation systems in its Industrial Products Division. You will lead automation projects, collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations, and provide commissioning support.

Bachelor's in engineering required; experience with Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, drives and HMI/DCS; travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Experience with PLC programming including ladder logic, function diagrams, and structured text.
• Experience with AC and DC drives.
• Experience with control system networks interfaces and communications protocols.
• Experience with HMI configuration and programming.
• Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and field instrumentation including valves.
• Autocad skills for power plans and control diagrams.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as project lead for automation and control projects.
• Collaborate with engineers, operations management, maintenance personnel, and contractors to meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements on assigned projects.
• Create documentation packages for bidding, installation, start-up, and maintenance of control system projects (scope of work, conduit layouts, cable schedules, connection drawings, bill of materials, preventive maintenance procedures, and spares).
• Provide commissioning and startup support for controls projects.
• Develop and maintain a project funnel for automation and control system upgrades.
• Work with plant process engineers to optimize control system performance.
• Provide direction to the maintenance team on controls related work orders.
• Train the maintenance team on new and existing automation and control systems.
• Troubleshooting alongside the maintenance team during system upsets.
